He is mainly active in Bollywood. Shetty made his acting debut in the 1992 film Balwaan which was a moderate success. He gave three hit films in 1993 Anth, Pehchaan and Waqt Hamara Hai. His first major blockbuster hit was the 1994 action thriller Mohra. As a producer, he set up a production company called Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd, which produced the films Khel (2003), Rakht: What If You Can See the Future and Bhagam Bhag (2006).

Border is a 1997 blockbuster Bollywood war film based on the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The movie is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala fought in Rajasthan during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It is about how a band of 120 soldiers of the Punjab regiment of the Indian Army headed by Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri successfully defended their post all night against a whole Tank regiment of the Pakistani Army, until assistance came from the Indian Air Force the next morning.

Sunil Shetty Best movie - Hu Tu Tu (1999)

Hu Tu Tu is a 1999 Hindi drama film directed by Gulzar. Panna is the only daughter of politician Maltidevi. Panna is very critical of her mother, when she decides to separate from her dad, and asked Chief Minister Sawantrao Gadre to move in with them, for political reasons. Sawantrao has been using Maltidevi to win his election, which he does. Malti avenges this humiliation, wins the next election, and has Sawantrao killed.
